Dark

Greetings!

Finland is known to be the homeland of Father Christmas, who lives in Lapland in Korvatunturi (Ear Fjeld). But the weather here in Finland isn't much of a winter wonderland. It's time of polar darkness, which means that sun is up only few hours per day, if even that. And now when there's no snow, it's very dark. My home town got only thirteen hours of sunlight in November, otherwise it was dark and in the middle of the day maybe grey.

Every day at 5.45 my bell wokes me up - time to go to gym. I've tried my best to cheer things up; bright blue knit cap, pink shorts and violet shirt was todays outfit. But oh, it is hard to be bubbly and active when it's seems like eternal night would have taken over. Ten days it gets even darker but then it's winter solstice and it's starts getting brighter finally.

Now I have to keep my energy levels up and still try to keep away from sugar (not been so great at that). I've got a big reason to shape me up to the point of perfection, but that's a secret 'till my next post.

Hey, by the way, it's Santa Lucia's day in two days - 13.12! It's one of my favorite traditional days in December.

See you in a bit, hopefully when there's snowy enough to ski!

Sugar - the devil

Sugar is nowadays known to have some serious impacts to our health. Few years ago it was fat that everyone was scared, so the food industry filled our cabins with light products. In those diet-versions the fat was removed partly or completely and replaced with sugar an other unhealthy food additives.

Today we know that usually it's the sugar that harms us. Sugar can be very addictive to some people. In fact it can be as addictive as heroine 'cos it releases the same neurotransmitters as other addictives. Sugar works in our brains just like other drugs - by messing with our own reward system and releasing opiates.

SO why not try to cope without it. At least that's what I'm going to try. I've detected that I might be oversensitive to sugar. I have this quality to be filled orgasmic euphoria after snacking my sweets which gives me some hint of how big of an impact sugar has on me.

This text is released after snacking some yummy-tummyfilling-gummyfruits last night. :) Full of regret and moral hangover -that's what drugs do to us!

Falling apart?

Two last weeks have been different...
I finally got to meet physiotherapist due to my lower back, hip and knee pain. After her examination I found out that I have a double-twisting (lumbar and thoracic) scoliosis,  fascia inflammation on hip and lower back and also that I have wear out my body to the overtraining point.

She recommended me to take it easy for a while and not increase my weight training load. My problems are likely caused by my flexibility - when I train my muscles they pull my whole body out of place. Overtraining has caused fascia problems 'cos those neural tissues aren't growing as quickly as the muscle inside them. Inflammation in hip fascia is typical when thighs are trained in repeatedly with big loads - common in sports such as ice hockey.

So I was told to take it easy, which I didn't do on first week.  But when I was helping pharmacy to move on weekend and carried hours huge loads, my pains got worse.

Last week was different. I dumped my usual gym program and had good time just hanging on the gym. I also missed two Taido classes and my runs. The week was crowned with a weekend on spa-hotel, where I emptied the buffét three times per day and enjoyed of doing nothing.

This week is all about finding the balance. I start my gym program from start, decreasing load and taking better care on nutrition and recovery.

Results

Hey! Promised to show you some progress so here it is.

Just do it. Hoping that my back will have some wideness one day

I felt so strange taking these pics: I'm not a person who enjoys time spent in front of a camera. But still, it's very useful to see yourself in other perspectives than your own. Sorry I didn't make an effort with my hair nor my makeup. And boy, I could really need some tan on my chicken legs! :D

Fittest

Hey!

It's been a while: me going back to studies and two projects have stressed me out. The creative part of me withered and writing was hard.

But it hasn't stop my training.
And finally, there are Results. I can really see more muscle definition, specially on my back and shoulders. Happily I can tell that tension on lower body has got better - my sacky ass is getting firmer, ya!
Six weeks ago I started the program and now there's only two left: special techniques and rest week. After that the program starts from again with bigger weights.
After my techniques week I going to make an update of my progress. That's a promise! ;)

Force rest.

Being ill and training doesn't go together so now I'm home in my pyjamas trying to get better.
I got the first signs of flu on monday and the last workout day was on wednesday. I should have one more workout this week, so I've been resting thursday, friday and now saturday, hoping that tomorrow I'd be energetic enough to be able to train hard.

But some good news, I almost learned the half frontflip on monday's Taido class - all though I strained my instep...

And some motivation for the "sicky-days"...
Maybe I should go and buy some new workout clothes, now I have the time. The old are now tattered and it seems I can't get rid of the smell of sweat...
